
The Ekiti State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Dayo Apata SAN has stressed the readiness of the State Government to scale up collaboration with the the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) to curb human trafficking and other related crimes in the State.
Mr Apata gave the assurance while playing host to top officials of National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons in his Office in Ado-Ekiti.
The Attorney General who spoke through the Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Sunday Bamise promised to engender robust cooperation and synergy with NAPTIP in the quest to totally rid the State of human trafficking
He promised that his ministry would look at the possibility of supporting the agency in its operations in the State
Earlier in his remarks, the NAPTIP
State Commander, Mr Oladimeji Ademola eulogized the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Dayo Apata SAN for his show of love and provision of needed materials for the smooth operation of NAPTIP activities in the State.
Mr. Ademola who noted that the group was in Ekiti to collect data and carry out awareness campaigns in Schools, Churches, Mosques and Markets in order to sensitize the people on how to curb increasing rate of human trafficking, said the menace was now rampant in the rural areas where underage children are brought in as migrant workers on farms .
The State Commander who noted that his Agency could not single handedly curb the trafficking alone, said NAPTIP was already collaborating with United Nations Office of Drug and Crime (UNODC) and other relevant Agencies to stop the menace in Nigeria.
Also speaking, the representative from the office of Bureau of Statistics, Abuja, Mr Tayo David who is in Ekiti State to supervise NAPTIP office for the three-day programme on data collection commended the resilience of the people at the Local Government Areas visited for their cooperation and support in ensuring that the program went well in Ekiti State.
