EKITI GOVERNMENT TRAINS BUTCHERS AND PROCESSORS ON PUBLIC SAFETY, NEW INNOVATION

In a major step to strengthen food safety and modernize meat handling practices in Ekiti State, the State Government through the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project has organized a comprehensive training programme for butchers and meat processors focusing on public safety and innovative processing methods.

The programme took place on Ado Ekiti, brought together key stakeholders and industry players across the livestock value chain. Participants were sensitized on modern slaughtering procedures, hygiene standards, safe meat handling, and innovative technologies that enhance productivity and ensure consumer safety.

Speaking at the training, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Ebenezer Boluwade, emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards in meat production and processing, noting that that the initiative was aimed at improving public health, enhancing value addition, and creating safer food systems in the state.

Boluwade stressed that the training is a strategic move by the government to curb health risks associated with poorly processed meat, adding that the L-PRES would empowering our butchers and processors with new knowledge and innovations to improve hygiene, boost productivity, and safeguard public health.

In his contribution, the State Project Coordinator L-PRES, Mr. Olayinka Adedipe, stressed the need for continuous education in the sector. He reiterated the commitment of the project to improving livestock productivity and compliance with food safety standards.

Adeddipe noted that the Project goal is to build a resilient livestock sector in Ekiti. He said that the training is critical in helping the stakeholders in livestock sector to meet international standards, reduce post-harvest losses, and improve income for our local processors.

The Production Manager, Lifecare Factory, Engr. Tolulope Arowojobe, who facilitated sessions on modern meat preservation techniques, urged participants to adopt the best practices and innovative technologies demonstrated during the training.

Participants at the event expressed appreciation to the government and L-PRES project describing the training as timely and impactful. They pledged to implement the new techniques in their operations to enhance the quality and safety of meat products in Ekiti State.

The training is part of the government’s broader strategy to reposition the livestock sector, promote agribusiness, and ensure food security across the state.
