The Ekiti State Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Adolescent Girls’ Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project, has commenced a two-day smartboard training programme for teachers in a newly established public secondary school in the state.
The training, which began on Wednesday, is aimed at strengthening digital learning and enhancing teaching effectiveness in the school.
The school, established in 2025 in Are-Ekiti by a philanthropist, Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, through the Tunji Olowolafe Foundation, was recently handed over to the Ekiti State Government for management following the installation of WOWBII interactive smartboards in its classrooms.
Speaking at the opening of the programme, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. Bayode Ogunmola, commended the state government and the donor foundation for investing in digital infrastructure.
Ogunmola urged teachers to embrace continuous learning in line with global technological trends and ensure effective utilization and proper maintenance of the smartboards.

According to him, the teachers, as pioneer staff of the school, must set standards for digital education, adding that resistance to technological innovation would not be tolerated.
He noted that teachers’ attitudes to the equipment would determine further government and donor investments in the school.
Also speaking, the Director of Schools in the ministry, Mrs. Adeyemi Adenike, advised that the remaining smartboards be installed in other classrooms to enhance wider usage.
She encouraged the teachers to take the training seriously, noting that digital tools would significantly improve classroom engagement and teaching outcomes.
Earlier, the Project Coordinator of the Ekiti State AGILE Project said the training was a follow-up to the project’s digital literacy intervention, which trained over 500 teachers in 2023 on the use of smartboards and other digital tools.
She explained that two beneficiaries of the earlier training—Mr. Bankole Jamiu of Ujilogun Community High School, Ilupeju-Ijan, and Mrs. Owoseni Tolulope of Harding Model College, Ado-Ekiti—were selected as facilitators for the exercise.
She urged participants to master the skills and cascade the knowledge to other teachers to sustain digital transformation across public schools in the state.
