…Monarch predicts victory for governor’s second term bid
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has solicited the support of traditional rulers across the 140 towns in Ekiti State ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election, pledging continued delivery of democratic dividends if re-elected.
Oyebanji made the appeal on Monday in Ijero-Ekiti while commissioning the ultra-modern palace of the Ajero of Ijero Kingdom, Oba Joseph Adebayo Adewole.
Represented by his deputy, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, the governor said the traditional institution would not be politicised under his administration.
He urged monarchs to use their influence to sustain peace in their domains during the election, warning against violence and actions capable of disrupting the state’s development tempo.
“Kabiyesis, the June 20, 2026 governorship election is another opportunity for the electorate to participate actively in the electoral process. We appeal to our people to see this as a sacred constitutional duty,” he said.
Oyebanji said the state had witnessed good governance in the last three and a half years through deliberate policies and sacrifices.
“On this premise, let us file out on election day and renew his mandate so that ongoing development that is renewing our hope in government and service to humanity can continue till 2030,” he said.
He also appealed to political actors to play by the rules, stressing that Ekiti remained the collective heritage of its people.
The governor commended the communal spirit in Ijero Kingdom, describing it as one of the most peaceful and progressive areas in the state.
He appreciated the Ajero for sustaining the rich cultural heritage of the kingdom and the Yoruba race, noting that the administration had installed 11 traditional rulers across the three senatorial districts without interference in their selection processes.
“The selection of a king remains the primary responsibility of kingmakers. This government has refrained from meddling in the process to ensure peace and stability in our communities,” he said.

In his remarks, the Ajero, Oba Joseph Adebayo Adewole, traced the palace project to 30 years ago and thanked the governor for facilitating its completion through financial support.
He predicted a landslide victory for Oyebanji in the forthcoming election, citing his performance and support among traditional rulers.
“The governor has demonstrated quality leadership. He respects traditional rulers and deserves our support. I am confident he will secure a second term,” the monarch said.
Oba Adewole described the palace as a symbol of resilience, commitment and industry for which the kingdom is known.
He recalled ascending the throne in 1991 amid crisis but pledged to work towards delivering a befitting palace for the kingdom.
The monarch also sympathised with residents affected by the Feb. 11, 2026 rainstorm that destroyed hundreds of houses, expressing gratitude that no life was lost.
Dignitaries at the event included the lawmaker representing Ijero Constituency in the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr Ademola Ojo; Chairman of Ijero Local Government, Mr Abayomi Folowosele; Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Home Affairs, Mr Olaiya Atibioke; Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Mr Folorunso Oyebode; Commissioner for Environment, Mr Tosin Aluko; and Special Adviser on Mobilisation, Mrs Kemi Olaleye, among others.
