PLANE Applauds Ekiti’s Performance in Schools Assessment

Coordinators of the Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE), a major education-focused development programme funded principally by the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), have commended the Ekiti State Government for what they described as the State’s outstanding performance in the graded assessment exercise of schools in the State.

Speaking during a training programme organized by the State Government in partnership with PLANE to advance regulatory reforms and strengthen the role of non-state schools in basic education, the Technical Lead, Governance of Non-State Systems at PLANE, Dr. James Fadokun, expressed confidence in the State’s capacity to achieve even greater success as the initiative progresses.

Dr. Fadokun noted that Ekiti State performed favorably compared to other states visited during the pilot phase, adding that the ongoing collaboration would help address identified gaps, enhance the effectiveness of non-state school administrators, and promote overall school improvement.

In her response, the State Commissioner for Education, Dr. (Mrs.) Kofoworola Aderiye, reiterated the Government’s commitment to partnering with individuals, corporate organizations, and development partners in its drive to further strengthen the education sector in the State.

Dr. Aderiye urged participants at the training programme and other stakeholders to support the Government’s development efforts, emphasizing the importance of full cooperation in achieving the desired objectives.

She also encouraged private school proprietors to cooperate fully with officials conducting the assessment to ensure proper documentation and smooth policy implementation, explaining that the process is intended to add value to the education system and is not in any way punitive.

Among those in attendance at the training programme were members of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), the Association of Private School Owners of Nigeria (APSON), the Association for Formidable Educational Development (AFED), and the Association of Model Islamic Schools (AMIS).

In their separate remarks, Mr. Bakare Adesina, Mr. Durojaiye Samon, Prince Joshua Aladejare, and Mr. Ibitoye Samson, speaking on behalf of their respective associations, pledged continued support for the State Government’s efforts to advance the education sector.
