Ekiti Govt Warns Engineers, Contractors Against Substandard Road Projects

The Ekiti State Ministry of Works has warned engineers and contractors handling road projects across the state against compromising standards, saying substandard work will attract sanctions.

The State Commissioner for Works, Mr Sola Adebayo, gave the warning during a maiden meeting with engineers supervising ongoing projects and contractors handling various road constructions in Ado-Ekiti.

Adebayo said any engineer found compromising standards in the supervision of road projects would be sanctioned for misconduct and sabotage.

He noted that the administration of Gov. Biodun Oyebanji had invested huge sums of money in road infrastructure in the last three years and would not tolerate poor workmanship.

The Commissioner said his office is regularly inundated with feedback from members of the public on the quality of work being executed in their communities.

According to him, contractors and resident engineers must ensure that government gets value for every kobo spent on road projects.

He added that stiff penalties await any contractor who violates contractual agreements.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Mr Olukayode Ibijola, urged contractors to strictly adhere to professional standards and best engineering practices to achieve desired results.

Ibijola said any laboratory test conducted in the absence of project engineers from the ministry would not be accepted by the State Government.

While commending some contractors for delivering quality jobs, he disclosed that others had been invited to a meeting scheduled for March 2, 2026, at the ministry to discuss ways of improving performance across project sites.

The Permanent Secretary said the meeting, initiated by his office, would henceforth be held monthly beginning from this month to ensure effective monitoring and compliance with standards.

Earlier, the Director of Civil Engineering in the ministry, Mr Bamidele Oke, said the meeting was convened to cross-fertilise ideas and explore strategies to enhance road infrastructure delivery across the state.

Other officials at the meeting included the Director of Administration and Supplies, Mr Tunji Folorunso; the Director of Press, Mr Kunle Adeniyi; three Deputy Directors in the Civil Engineering Department; and other engineers from the ministry.

Responding on behalf of construction companies handling road projects in the state, Engineer Ogunsusi of Dromo Construction and a representative of Ruddy Construction Company thanked the state government for the opportunity given to their companies to execute projects.
