EKIRS unveils 2026 revenue strategy to boost growth, compliance

The Executive Chairman of the Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service (EKIRS), Mr Olaniran Olatona, says the agency’s 2026 strategy will focus on protecting the State’s Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) revenue base, diversifying non-PAYE income streams and enhancing compliance monitoring.

Olatona disclosed this on Tuesday at its board meeting and executive briefing attended by the Ekiti State Governor’s representative, the Chief of Staff, Mr Niyi Adebayo.

He said the strategic priorities of the service for the year also include strengthening revenue generation and improving tax compliance in the state.

According to him, technology and data-driven enforcement will play a central role in achieving the agency’s objectives, noting that recent reforms have improved compliance and reduced bottlenecks in tax administration.

He said EKIRS would intensify efforts to expand revenue sources by focusing on sectors such as solid minerals and transportation.

The chairman also emphasised the need to strengthen accountability across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to enhance overall revenue performance.

While acknowledging that challenges remain, Olatona commended taxpayers for voluntary compliance and assured that the service would continue to promote fairness in taxation.

In his remarks, the Chief of Staff to the Ekiti State Governor, Mr Adeniyi Adebayo, who represented the state helmsman at the briefing, commended EKIRS for its transparency and professionalism, and assured continued government support for initiatives aimed at improving revenue generation and accountability.

The event also featured a leadership transition, with Mr Adekunle Fati stepping down as Legal Adviser.

He was succeeded by Mrs Emmanuella Akinyemi, who now serves as Legal Adviser and Secretary to the Board.

Officials of the service also reviewed the implementation of new tax laws effective from Jan. 1, 2026, as well as the Ekiti State Revenue Administration Law, 2025, signed in December 2025.

EKIRS said the strategy is part of efforts to build a modern, technology-driven and transparent revenue system to support sustainable development in the state.
