EKSG FUMIGATES ILOKUN DUMPSITE

Ekiti State Government has fumigated the main dumpsite in the State capital situated along Ilokun to protect residents and prevent health hazards.

The State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Erelu Tosin Aluko Ajisafe said that the move was to make the sites safer for waste management operations.

Mrs. Aluko said by making the sites safer, there would be a reduction in health risks to the communities housing the dumpsites, adding that the dumpsites play critical roles in the waste management chain, paving way for the attainment of the agency’s vision of establishing a consistent cleaner environment.

Aluko added that in recognition of the pivotal role of the dumpsite to the society, Governor Oyebanji has also approved release of funds to support the community at the Ilokun dumpsite.

According to her, the financial support is a demonstration of the governor’s commitment to the general wellbeing of the people adding that it would boost collective efforts to maintain a clean and healthy environment.

Accompanying the Commissioner were the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Babatunde Alokan, Director of Environmental Health and Sanitation, Mr. Tunde Balogun, Director, Nature Conservation, Mr. Babatunde Akinola and other officials of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.
