Ekiti State Government has set up a 10-member panel of enquiry to investigate the perceived poor attitude of health workers and suggest any other measures to improve quality of health care delivery at the Accident & Emergency Department of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti.
The State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Oyebanji Filani, in a statement made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti, disclosed that the committee which is co-chaired by a former Commissioner for Health in the State, Dr. Femi Thomas and Permanent Secretary of the State Hospital management Board, Dr. Sunkanmi Alabi is expected to submit an interim report within 72hours and a comprehensive one within 2 weeks.
Dr. Filani explained that the target is to investigate all bottlenecks with a view to streamline and improve service delivery in the hospital following concerns raised by health care seeking people in the state regarding the challenges they face in accessing healthcare services at the hospital.
Urging the general public to remain calm and law-abiding, Filani assured that the State Government would effectively address all lingering issues, adding that recent incidents of patient/patient relatives’ assault on doctors and other health care workers at the hospital in the discharge of their duties would also be adequately looked into.

He assured workers of the hospital and the general public that swift action was being taken in response to the recent reported attacks on medical personnel at the hospital, assuring that the suspects involved have been apprehended and charged to court, while measures to enhance security within the hospital premises have been implemented.
Filani solicited the continued support and cooperation of all stakeholders as Government strives to uphold the highest standards of healthcare delivery in Ekiti State, assuring that a comprehensive capacity-building program for all staff members would soon be initiated to ensure optimal service delivery while creating a safer and more conducive work environment.
