The Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service (EKIRS) has called for the designation of special revenue courts, alongside the establishment of mobile courts, to handle revenue-related matters more efficiently across the state.

The Executive Chairman of EKIRS, Mr. Olaniran Olatona, made the appeal during a meeting between senior officials of the Service and the Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Hon. Justice Lekan Ogunmoye, held at the State High Court Complex in Ado-Ekiti.

Mr. Olatona explained that the proposed courts would not only accord revenue-related cases the priority they deserve and handle them expeditiously but also help strengthen revenue generation in the State and enable the Internal Revenue Service to effectively deliver on its mandate.

In his response, the Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Hon. Justice Lekan Ogunmoye, who emphasized the importance of deterring tax-related offences, assured the EKIRS delegation that their request would be given due consideration and necessary judiciary’s support in providing the appropriate legal and institutional framework.

Other officials present at the meeting included Hon. Justice Adeniyi Familoni; the Head of Legal Department at EKIRS, Mr. Augustine Olaifa; Legal Officers Mrs. Odunayo Adeyanju and Miss Emmanuella Akinyemi; and the Head of the Ministries, Departments and Agencies Department, Mr. Adeyemi Adekoya, among others.
