
The Ekiti State Government has charged accountants in its public service to uphold prudence, transparency and accountability in the management of government finances.
The Commissioner for Capacity Development and Training, Prof. Patrick Tedela, gave the charge in Ado-Ekiti during a two-day workshop for accountants themed “Integrated Financial Management: Leveraging Standards, Technology and Performance for Sustainable Public Service Delivery.”
Tedela said accountants must be diligent in fund management, financial reporting, vote control, compliance and revenue monitoring, stressing that their roles are central to effective service delivery.
He also commended the Governor Biodun Oyebanji administration for sustaining Ekiti’s leadership in fiscal transparency among states.
In her remarks, the Head of Service, Dr Folakemi Olomojobi, lauded the contributions of accountants to the state’s achievements and urged them to embrace technology to remain relevant in a rapidly evolving financial landscape.
Olomojobi noted that integrity, sound skills, effective communication and emotional intelligence are key to outstanding performance.
Delivering a goodwill message, the Accountant General/Permanent Secretary, Mrs Olariike Olayinka, represented by the Deputy Accountant General, Mrs Fola Ajayi, said the training would equip participants with modern skills and align the state’s financial practices with global standards.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Capacity Development and Training, Barr. Bamidele Arowosola, described the role of accountants as sensitive, noting that proper financial control is vital to funding government programmes and preventing waste.
The facilitators at the workshop, Mr Bayo Opeyemi, a retired Permanent Secretary and Mr Felix Ojo, a retired Executive Secretary expressed optimism that the training would enhance participants’ performance.
Some participants, including Mr Dada Vincent and Mrs Aishat Junaid, described the workshop as impactful and pledged to apply the knowledge gained to improve their duties.
They commended the state government and the ministry for the initiative.
