The Ekiti State Government has disbursed N29 million as subvention to registered youth organisations and students’ associations in the state to support their developmental activities.

The State Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr Gold Adedayo, disclosed this on Monday in Ado-Ekiti during the presentation of cheques to the beneficiary organisations.

Adedayo said the subvention was aimed at supporting development initiatives of youth organisations and students’ groups, while also promoting civic engagement, innovation and sustainable community impact.

He explained that the gesture was part of the state government’s efforts to support grassroots development, promote youth empowerment, encourage civic participation and build sustainable socio-economic networks.

Giving a breakdown of the disbursement, the commissioner listed beneficiaries to include the Nigeria Youth Congress (NYC), Southern Nigeria Youth Congress (SNYC), Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN), Young Women in Politics (YWP), Peace Corps, Ekiti Youth Parliament (EYP), Anglican Youth Organisation (AYO), National Association of Polytechnic Students, Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti chapter, Ekiti State Polytechnic, Isan-Ekiti, and Otun Eminent Youth, among others.

Adedayo described the disbursement as the fourth tranche of subvention to youth organisations in the state, noting that it reflected the administration’s unwavering commitment to youth development.

According to him, the youth remain the future of Ekiti State, and the subvention exercise is one of the many ways the government is translating its vision for youth empowerment into reality.

He urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds by channeling them towards meaningful projects that would enhance organisational growth and improve the welfare of young people in the state.

“To our dear youth leaders and student representatives, today’s event is a call to greater responsibility.

“The subvention you are receiving today is a seed meant to drive meaningful projects, support organisational growth and enhance the welfare of your members,” he said.

Adedayo also encouraged the beneficiaries to remain committed to contributing to the growth and prosperity of the state.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth Development, Mr Olawale Olaleye, commended Gov. Biodun Oyebanji for approving the fourth tranche of the subvention.

He said the timely support demonstrated the government’s strong commitment to youth development, empowerment and sustained engagement across the state.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ekiti State chapter, Comrade Segun Bankole, expressed appreciation to the state government for the gesture.

Bankole pledged that the beneficiary groups would utilise the funds judiciously towards achieving the intended developmental objectives.
