Ekiti begins training on Automated Expenditure Management System

The Ekiti State Government has commenced a four-day training programme on the automation of its Expenditure Management System as part of efforts to strengthen public financial management, improve efficiency and enhance transparency in government expenditure.

Speaking at the opening of the training in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday, the Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Lucy Bolaji Bamisile, described the programme as a major milestone in the state’s financial management reform agenda.

Bamisile said the automation initiative was designed to modernise expenditure processes across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), ensuring faster processing of expenditure clearance, improved budget monitoring and greater accountability in the management of public resources.

She said the state had completed critical preparatory stages for the implementation of the system, including system configuration, budget alignment, security protocols and stakeholder engagement.

According to her, the continued reliance on manual processes has contributed to delays in payment processing, operational inefficiencies, budget overruns and increased vulnerability to errors and fraud.

“The automated system will provide real-time visibility into financial transactions, reduce human errors, improve accountability and significantly boost productivity and operational efficiency across government institutions,” she said.

Bamisile stressed that the initiative was not intended to replace personnel but to equip public officers with modern digital tools to enhance performance and service delivery.

She urged participants, including Accounting Officers, Directors of Finance and Accounts, Accountants and Chief Internal Auditors, to actively participate in the training to ensure the successful implementation of the system.

The Acting Permanent Secretary commended the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Akintunde Oyebode, for his leadership and commitment to fiscal reforms in the state.

She also appreciated Gov. Biodun Oyebanji for his support for reforms aimed at promoting transparency, accountability and good governance in the public service.

Bamisile further acknowledged the contributions of Prunedge Development Technologies, the Expenditure Department and other stakeholders toward the successful commencement of the initiative.

She reaffirmed the Ministry of Finance’s commitment to the successful deployment of the automated expenditure management system, expressing confidence that the initiative would position Ekiti as a model for transparent and efficient public financial management.

Participants at the training commended the
ministry for organising the programme, describing the automation initiative as timely and beneficial.

They said the transition from manual to digital expenditure management would improve efficiency, reduce delays in processing financial transactions and strengthen accountability across MDAs.

The participants also pledged their commitment to supporting the implementation process by applying the knowledge gained during the training to ensure the successful deployment of the system.
