Ekiti Govt Trains Livestock Value Chain Actors on Modern Cooperative Management

…….Initiative to strengthen cooperative governance, improve market access, and boost livestock productivity.

The Ekiti State Government has trained livestock value chain actors on modern cooperative management as part of efforts to strengthen cooperative governance, improve market access, and boost livestock productivity across the state.

The training, held in Ado-Ekiti under the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project, brought together livestock farmers, processors, marketers and cooperative leaders to build capacity in cooperative administration, financial management, value addition and sustainable agribusiness practices.

Declaring the programme open, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Ebenezer Boluwade, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to building resilient and profitable livestock enterprises through well-structured cooperatives.

Boluwade, who was represented by the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Omolade Adeleye, said effective cooperative societies would enhance access to finance, modern technologies, quality inputs and wider markets, thereby improving livelihoods and strengthening food security in the state.

He urged participants to maximise the opportunity by applying the knowledge gained to strengthen their cooperative structures and promote transparency, accountability and collective growth.

Also speaking, the State Project Coordinator of the L-PRES Project, Mr. Olayinka Adedipe, said the training was designed to equip stakeholders with modern cooperative management skills to improve business efficiency and deepen collaboration across the livestock value chain.

Adedipe said the project remained committed to initiatives that would boost productivity and enhance the resilience of livestock farmers in Ekiti State.

He added that strong cooperatives would improve members’ bargaining power, ease access to government support programmes and enhance the competitiveness of livestock products in local and national markets.

Some participants commended the state government and the L-PRES Project for the training, describing it as timely and impactful. They said the sessions had improved their understanding of cooperative governance, financial discipline, record-keeping and collective marketing.

They pledged to apply the knowledge gained within their respective cooperative societies, expressing optimism that it would boost productivity, profitability and sustainable growth in the livestock sector.
