The Ekiti State Government says it recorded an 87.9 per cent budget performance in the 2025 fiscal year, reflecting its commitment to effective planning, prudent resource management and transparent governance.
The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr Femi Ajayi, disclosed this while presenting the ministry’s stewardship report at the Ekiti State House of Assembly.
Ajayi said the ministry, which is responsible for preparing, coordinating and monitoring implementation of the state’s annual budget, would continue strengthening its processes to sustain and improve performance.
He said the achievement reflected the administration’s commitment to ensuring government programmes and projects were effectively implemented to deliver meaningful impact on the people of the state.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to sound fiscal governance, transparency and accountability, describing these principles as central to the administration’s development agenda.
Ajayi noted that Ekiti had continued to receive commendation for its fiscal responsibility, citing assessments by BudgIT and other rating organisations, which he said had consistently ranked the state among the best performers in fiscal governance since 2023.
While clarifying that the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning was not directly responsible for generating Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), Ajayi said it played a strategic role in ensuring the state met requirements for accessing performance-based grants and interventions.
He noted that Ekiti had consistently met the eligibility criteria for initiatives such as the State Action on Business Enabling Reforms (SABER) and HOPE-GOV, which had significantly boosted the state’s financial resources since 2023.
He attributed these gains to the administration’s fiscal discipline, effective planning, transparency and strict adherence to financial regulations, and commended the cordial relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government, which he described as a major factor behind the state’s developmental strides.
According to him, this harmonious relationship had enhanced the consideration and implementation of government policies, programmes and budgets, creating an enabling environment for sustainable development.
Ajayi expressed optimism that continued cooperation between the two arms of government, along with the dedication of public servants, would help Ekiti consolidate its achievements and record improved performance in budget implementation and fiscal governance.
He assured that the ministry would remain focused on its mandate of sound economic planning, effective budget monitoring and fiscal responsibility in support of the administration’s development agenda.
