The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project in Ekiti State has held a sensitization meeting with the leadership of the State Chapter of the National Sheep/Goat Development Association of Nigeria (NASHGODAN) over the ongoing mapping and profiling of goat/sheep farm/farmers in the state.
The State Project Coordinator, L-PRES Mr. Olayinka Adedipe, who was represented by the Extension Officer L-PRES, Mrs. Olubunmi Ajayi at the forum in Ado-Ekiti stressed the need for all sheep, goat and livestock farmers in the state to ensure they are profiled in the ongoing exercise
He emphasized that as a priority value chain, profiling would help the project to identify needs of the farmers in the goat/sheep value chain.
The Project Coordinator explained that the Jotform application designed by experts at the National ICT Office of L-PRES would be used for the mapping and profiling enrolment.
He charged NASHGODAN members to form themselves into viable clusters / groups for easy access to soft loans and capacity building
In his contribution, Mr. Muyiwa Adelodun, Animal Husbandry Specialist for L-PRES advised Sheep/Goat farmers to improve on the breed of goats and sheep they rear for greater yield and quality of their products.

The Coordinator of NASHGODAM, Ekiti State chapter, Alhaji Bello Elias who commended the Ekiti State Government for bringing the World Bank project to the door steps of livestock farmers in the State, pleaded that the State Government should establish sheep/goat bank which will be a multiplication breeder farm and a commercial Sheep/Goat Market in the State to avoid members traveling to the Northern part of the country to buy their stocks.
The Representative of Women in Agriculture, Princess Sayo Adenle represented by Kehinde Abayomi highlighted some of their challenges and solicited for the assistance of the State Government to improve their businesses and enjoy good returns on their investments.
