Ekiti Holds Monthly Sanitation Exercise On Saturday

The Ekiti State Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise would hold on Saturday, 25th May 2024, from 7:00 am to 10:00 am.

A statement made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti by the State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Erelu Tosin Aluko Ajisafe said market women are expected to clean their shops and stalls during the weekly Thursday market Sanitation while all government employees are urged to clean their offices and surroundings on Friday, 24th May 2024, before the close of work

The theme for the May Edition of the environmental sanitation exercise is “Clean Environment Prolongs Life, Make Sanitation A Habit”.

Residents of the State are encouraged to tidy up their surroundings, with movement restrictions applying to both people and vehicles throughout the exercise.

The statement said exceptions will however be made for individuals engaged in official responsibilities as well as those on essential duties and services while candidates, supervisors, and monitoring officers involved in the gifted examination into the Federal Government Academy scheduled for Saturday at FGC Ikole Ekiti would be allowed movement to and from the venue of the examination.

Locals and business owners are advised to properly dispose of their wastes and clear drainage systems in front of their structures while vendors at various markets are reminded to utilize the opportunity to clean their stores and booths, ensuring proper disposal of rubbish without dumping into drainages.

All marketplaces and commercial settings shall remain closed until 10 am on the day of the Sanitation Exercise.

The statement added that Environmental Health Officers from the State and Local Government, as well as NGOs, and Security agencies will monitor the sanitation exercise while Mobile Courts will also be operational across the State for the prosecution of violators of environmental health and sanitation laws.
