Ekiti Local Govt Officials Urged to Demonstrate high standard of public morality in Conduct of Government Business

Ekiti State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Hon Folorunso Olabode
has called on public officers in the Local Government System in the State to always demonstrate the highest standards of integrity and transparency in the discharge of their duties.

The Commissioner made the call in Ado-Ekiti while declaring open a one – day sensitization workshop organized for local government political office holders and Directors of Administration on Code of Conduct for public officers in Nigeria.

Hon Olabode who lauded Governor Biodun Oyebanji for the approval of the sensitization workshop and the provision of logistic support for it’s success, charged participants to reflect the values of honesty, accountability and ethical conduct after the training.
The Commissioner emphasised that code of conduct serves as a guiding light and the importance of avoiding conflicts of interest, practising fairness & impartiality and the protection of resources entrusted.
He explained that transparency in asset declaration also safeguards against corruption signifying that no one is above the law.

He charged the Directors of Administration to go back and train others in their various Councils noting that documentation is powerful and could be taken against someone in the future.

The lead Facilitator who is also the ¹Acting State Director at the Code of Conduct Bureau, Mr Solomon Omobolade in his lecture, spoke on what is expected of a public servant, the ethics and behaviors of an employee.

He noted that ensuring compliance and enforcing the needful in the discharge of duties are some of the guidelines of the Code of Conduct.

Mr Omobolade did justice to many topics at the forum which including the vision and mission statement of the Code of Conduct Bureau, abuse of power, declaration of assets, how to properly fill the assets declaration form, the offenses and conflict of interest, penalities of not declaring asset and host of others important topics.
Responding on behalf of other Council Chairman, the Chairman of Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon Oluwasegun Ojo lauded the State Government for organizing the forum as participants have learnt a lot at the one-day programme

He promised on behalf of other Council Chairmen to maintain a high standard of public morality in the conduct of government business and to ensure that their actions and behavior as public officers conform to the highest standards of public morality and accountability.
