EKITI L-PRES INAUGURATES STATE STEERING GRIEVANCE REDRESS COMMITTEE

…Gov. Oyebanji lauded for establishing State Peace Committee

The State Steering Grievance Redress Committee (GRC) of the Ekiti State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project has been officially inaugurated in Ado-Ekiti with a call on members to work in synergy to ensure that grievances arising in the operations of the project in the State are managed professionally.

Performing the inauguration of the committee, the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Engr Olugbenga Odesanmi noted that the Committee would among other things receive, review, and act on complaints or grievances raised by individuals or groups who have been adversely affected by the L-PRES operations or activities in the State.

Odesanmi who lauded Governor Oyebanji for establishing the State Peace Committee to oversee matters relating to farmers and herders conflict in the State, noted that the Grievance Redress Mechanism would allow affected Members of the community to express their feelings on issues that could lead to crisis and also forestall disharmony among the Stakeholders.

He stressed that within the short time of its establishment, the L-PRES Project had made significant impact in the livestock Sub-Sector through its sensitization and advocacy campaigns, Capacity building/Workshop training for the livestock farmers in the value chain such as Cattle, Sheep/Goat, Poultry and Pig production.

In his remarks, the State Project Coordinator, L-PRES Mr. Olayinka Adedipe highlighted Components of the Project, noting that Grievance Redress Mechanism is under Component 3 of the Project.

Adedipe who was represented at the event by the Project’s Animal Husbandry Officer, Mr.Muyiwa Adelodun said the committee was launched based on the need to resolve conflicts that may be gender related, inclusion issues, social issues, environmental issues amongst other.

Earlier in his remarks, the Director of the State Bureau of Lands Services , Mr. Isaac Ajakaye spoke on the process of Land acquisition by the government and the process of compensating land owners where Cash Crop are affected.

Mr. Ajakaye represented by Mrs. Olayinka Oyinloye called on communities, individuals or groups in areas where projects are centered not to engage in acts that could lead to the delay in execution of projects and breakdown of trust.

Also speaking, the Social Safety guard Officer, Ekiti L-PRES, Mrs. Aderonke Oke charged Members of the Committee to always address the grievances of the affected individuals or communities in a just manner as this is a crucial element in the design, planning, implementation and management of the Project.

Oke who said that grievance could emanate from displacement of persons, restriction of access or loss of livelihood, noted that grievances could also emanate from Land acquisition, non-inclusion of community members in paid labour/workforce, gender inequality in micro-project selection, implementation and decision -making process among others.

Members of the Grievance Redress Committee include: Engr. Olugbenga Odesanmi, (PS, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Chairman), Mr. Anthony Alofe (Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security), Mr. Tunde Balogun ( Ministry of Environmental Health and Sanitation), Mr. Isaac Ajakaye ( Bureau of Lands) while Mr.Olayinka Adedipe ( State Project Coordinator L-PRES is to serve as Secretary.
