EKSG, IDEAS PROJECT TASK TSPs ON SUCCESS OF NYESAF SHORT DURATION TRAINING PROGRAMME.

Ekiti State Government has pledged to utilize the Short-Duration Training Programme of the Nigerian Youth Employment Skills Acquisition Fund (NYESAF) under the World Bank Assisted Innovation Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) Project in the State to upskill and provide the required certification for young artisans in the State.

The State Commissioner for Education, Dr. (Mrs.) Olabimpe Aderiye who made the pledge in Ado Ekiti during a meeting with Training Service Providers, stressed that upskilling and certification of young artisans would have the desired multiplier effect on the economies of States in the South West Zone.

Dr. Aderiye said that the Training Service Providers (TSP) would be chosen on merit to ensure competency and effective service delivery.

Earlier in her presentation, the State Coordinator of the IDEAS Project, Mrs. Adenike Akinyemi explained that the NYESAF Program was designed to finance short-duration training in market-relevant skills with strong employment prospects, adding that it is particularly targeted at unemployed youths between the ages of 15 and 35 years.

Stressing that over 6,000 youths would benefit from the programme in the South West Zone headquartered in Ekiti, Akinyemi said that the skills fund is accessible to both public and private Training Service Providers with prerequisite qualifications and experience.

According to her, the project would go a long way in supporting the ongoing long term education reform agenda and help address constraints facing technical education in Nigeria, adding that it would also boost youth employment, create professionals and technicians with middle-level vocational qualifications, as well as skilled craftspeople and semi-skilled workers at lower levels.

She said interested youths will be trained under the projects in the South Western zone in six sectors including Agriculture, Hospitality Leisure and Tourism, Building Construction, Creative Industry, Automobile Technical Skills, Health and Fitness, and Digital skills.
