EKSG holds Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week, 9th-13th December, 2024

In a bid to further improve the health and well-being of mothers, newborns and children, the State Government is joining other national and sub national units across the globe to hold this year’s
Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) Week between Monday 9th and Friday 13th of December, 2024.

The Director General of the Ekiti State Primary Healthcare Development Agency , Dr Ayodele Seluwa in a statement made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti said the programne focuses on providing essential health services, promoting healthy behavior and strengthening the health of the residents of the state.

Dr Seluwa stated that the 5-day event is aimed at reducing maternal and child mortality, providing vaccinations against diseases such as measles, polio and tetanus.

The Director General noted that the exercise would also among other things increase and improve access to essential health services as well as strengthen health system and enhance capacity of health systems to provide quality services.

He called on all health seeking Ekiti residents to use the opportunity to visit health facilities across the state to attend to their health needs

While commenting on the MNBH week, the State Nutrition Officer, Dr Bolanle Olorunyomi disclosed that some of the interventions during the program included Vitamin A supplementation and dewormings, vaccination against some diseases, and family planning stressing that other interventions include nutrition counseling, offering guidance on proper nutrition, including exclusive breastfeeding, malaria prevention through distribution of insecticide treated nets as well as HIV screening among others.

Dr Olorunyomi said that the a week-long campaign is expected to improve health outcomes, reduced maternal and child mortality, improved newborn and child health across the state.

The State Nutrition Officer said that health workers have been trained to adequately attend to any resident that visits the facilities during the maternal, Newborn and Child week.
