As part of steps to enhance disaster preparedness and prevention, the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has held a sensitization programme in Ido/Osi in Ekiti North Senatorial District.
The awareness campaign which was attended by a large crowd at Ido-Ekiti focused on preventing fire outbreaks, rainstorm damages, and flood disasters across the state.
Addressing market women at the event in Ido-Ekiti , the Chairman of the SEMA ,Alhaji Ademola Bello highlighted the dangers of fire disasters, stressing that many individuals have lost their property and life investment due to infernos.
He relayed Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s directive to SEMA to educate citizens on safety measures, urging them to be cautious about power surges, avoid Bush burning and always switch off electrical appliances before leaving their homes and places of work.
Alhaji Bello also called on smokers to ensure the proper disposal of cigarette butts to prevent fire outbreaks.
He expressed the governor’s deep concern over the recurring loss of properties due to fire disasters and emphasized the need for increased vigilance.

In his remarks, General Manager of SEMA, Mr. Oludare Asaolu,warned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainage channels, emphasizing that clear waterways are crucial for preventing floods during the rainy season.
Also speaking at the event,the Director of Administration and Supplies at the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Foluso Oguntimehin, encouraged residents to plant trees around their homes to serve as windbreakers and safeguard buildings from damage from rainstorm.
The sensitization program is part of the government’s broader efforts to ensure public safety and disaster prevention across Ekiti State.
