EKITI PROMOTES 6,129 TEACHING AND NON-TEACHING STAFF.

Ekiti State Government has approved the promotion of 6,129 teaching and non-teaching staff of public secondary schools across the state as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance the education sector.

The Chairman of the State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mrs. Rhoda Ojo who made this known at a meeting with the principals of public secondary schools in Ado Ekiti, said letters of promotion have been dispatched to the beneficiaries.

According to her, 5,669 of the newly promoted Staff are teachers while the remaining 460 are non-teaching staff and attributed the success of the promotion exercise to the commitment of Governor Biodun Oyebanji to the welfare of workers in the State, particularly teachers.

Noting that the delay in the 2022/2023 promotion exercise which was caused by power struggles and contentions with seniority issues had been resolved by the State Government, Mrs. Ojo urged the workers to reciprocate Government’s gesture by being diligent and dedicated to their duties.

She also warned that Government would not tolerate hooliganism, violence and indiscipline in schools adding that principals are responsible for the day-to-day operations of their schools and must lead the school community, create a positive learning environment, and ensure students succeed.

The Chairman assured that the State Government would continue to reward outstanding principals and teachers adding however that Government would however not hesitate to sanction teachers who demonstrate indolence and ineptitude in their places of work.

Earlier in his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Teaching Service Commission Mr. Michael Boluwade has stressed the need to discourage attempts to unduly influence postings and transfers, particularly mid-session, stressing that such moves have negative effect on the academic performance of pupils.

He assured that the commission would continue to place high premium on the welfare of both teaching and non-teaching staff of secondary schools in the State for enhanced productivity and excellent performance of students.

The State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) , Comrade Bamidele Daodu, his counterpart in the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools, ASUSS, Comrade Sola Adigun and the Chairman, All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools ANCOPSS, Mr. Akinbode Oke, in their comments, assured the leadership of the commission that their members would live up to expectations of government and guarantee academic excellence in public secondary schools in the state.

The union leaders nevertheless called for training of their members in order for them to be equipped with modern day teaching and learning techniques.
