Ekiti SUBEB Chairman Commends HODs, Education Secretaries on Effective Delivery on UBE Programmes.

The Executive Chairman of Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Femi Akinwumi has commended Heads of Departments of the board and Education Secretaries across the 16 LGEAs for effectively delivering on all activities of the universal basic education in the state.

Prof. Akinwumi made the statement in Ado Ekiti while presiding over the 2024 review meeting on activities of the Board and the 16 Local Government Education Authorities(LGEAs)

The SUBEB boss said that their contributions have gone a long way in actualizing the vision of the state government for its education sector, adding that they had proved how significant they are in driving the engine of government in the various departments on implementation of government policies within the agency.

He however reminded the Education Secretaries to continue to support the initiatives of Governor Biodun Oyebanji towards the development of basic education sector, stressing the need to rekindle their efforts in their respective LGEAS to improve the quality of education to an enviable standard.

According to him, Governor Oyebanji had turned around the fortunes of teachers in the state as well as improve the quality of basic education through unparalleled demonstration of his vision and passion for development of basic education.

Akinwumi who said that Gov. Oyebanji’s governance is a reflection of positive thinking and a firm commitment to teacher’s welfare noted also that the state has significantly enhanced basic education, to earn itself recognition as one of the best performing states in basic education delivery.

“This administration has consistently demonstrated its commitment to improving the education sector, recent approval of N3.5 billion as counterpart funds along with allocation of funds for establishment of mega schools across the 16 local government areas, absorption of 505 graduate teachers to grade level 08, upgrade of university graduate teachers to grade level 16, car and housing loans to primary school teachers procurement and distribution of instructional materials worth several millions of naira, etc reflect the dedication of Gov. Oyebanji to education development in the state.”

The SUBEB helmsman who emphasized the importance of continuity in good governance urged the Education Secretaries to remain loyal to Governor Oyebanji who has been showing an unwavering commitment to development of basic education since the inception of his administration by focusing on initiatives that would improve the quality of education.

Prof. Femi Akinwumi also urged for better performance and increased output in order to actualize the UBE objectives.

He tasked the Directors on routine monitoring of schools for the purpose of assessment of academic activities, school statistics including teachers and pupils enrolment as well as the state of infrastructures, stressing that regular monitoring would enhance the quality of education for effective delivery of basic education activities.

Prof. Akinwumi who stressed the need for peaceful coexistence among teachers and other people outside their profession urged the Education Secretaries to provide orientation and guidelines for teachers in their domains in order to guide against aggressive conduct that can lead to destruction of lives and properties, noting that nothing in life is worth dying for, but yet called for security of lives and properties of teachers against both internal and external aggression.

Commenting on the presentations, the Board Commissioner for Human Resource Management, Dr. Olufunke Fajobi commended the Directors and the Education Secretaries for their proactive ness and achievements during the period under review, urging for more collaborations and synergy among the various departments in order to achieve a common goal of development in the basic education.

She expressed confidence in the ability of the personnel to improve on their performance and increase productivity, assuring them that more conducive environment would be created to enhance motivation for greater outputs.

The occasion is a bi-annual activity of the Board which provides for review of departmental activities by the Heads of Departments and Education Secretaries as well as future plans and projections.
