
The Ekiti State government has emphasized the crucial role women play in driving the state ‘s economy, particularly through the livestock Sub-sector.
Speaking in Ado-Ekiti during a one- day sensitization programme for female livestock farmers in the State tagged “Promoting and Encouraging Women in the Livestock Sub-sector”, the State Project Coordinator of the Livestock Productivity & Resilience Project (L-PRES) Mr Olayinka Adedipe noted that
the government aims to create jobs and promote financial inclusion among women through the livestock Sub-sector.
Adedipe who was represented by the Extension Officer L-PRES,Mrs Olubunmi Ajayi explained that the initiative is part of Government’s broader strategy to diversify the State’s economy and reduce poverty.
While restating the commitment of Government to promote women’s participation in the livestock industry through the World Bank supported L-PRES Programme, Adedipe noted that women are key players in the livestock value chain.
He stressed that empowering the womenfolk is essential to unlocking the sector’s full potential adding that the L-PRES project is working to improve livestock productivity, resilience and commercialization in selected value chain.

In her contribution, the Gender Based Violence Officer L-PRES, Mrs. Busola Adeniyi advocated for increased investment in the livestock Sub-sector.
Adeniyi stressed that investing in the livestock Sub-sector can have a significant impact on women’s economic empowerment and food security noting that women are often responsible for managing livestock and producing dairy products but in many cases lack access to resources, markets and training.
Also speaking at the event, the value chain Officer L-PRES, Mrs Adenike Omoleye addressed the gathering, emphasized that a robust value chain is crucial for increasing women’s access to markets, improving their productivity and ultimately boosting their income.
In her remarks, the Social Safeguard Officer L-PRES Mrs Aderonke Oke advised livestock farmers on health management, housing and shelter are necessary in keeping good animal Husbandry practices in order to get better results in production.
The Iyaloja Sheep and goats farmers in Ado Ekiti, Chief Mrs. Mary Adewole-Ojo appreciate the Ekiti State government and L-PRES for organized a day sensitization programme for female livestock farmers in the State.
