
….Commissioner Urges Public Support for Efforts to to improve Sanitation
In a renewed effort to improve sanitation and environmental cleanliness across Ekiti State, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources has announced the fabrication of an additional 20 new Dino bins to the existing collection, bringing the total number of bins deployed across the state to over 60.
The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Erelu Tosin Aluko-Ajisafe who disclosed this during an inspection of the newly procured Dino bins expressed delight at the remarkable progress being made by the State Government in the quest to rid the State of waste
She attributed the achievement recorded in the sector to the unwavering support of Governor Biodun Oyebanji towards putting in place an efficient waste disposal system in the State .
“We are happy to announce that we have just added 20 more Dino Bins to help us manage waste better in our state. This progress was made possible because of the strong support of our Governor. We thank him for always caring about the environment and for allowing us to do more for the people,” she stated.
Erelu Aluko-Ajisafe urged residents to take full ownership of the new bins by using them responsibly and refraining from indiscriminate dumping of waste.
“Let us stop dumping waste carelessly. These bins have been provided, so please use them well. A clean Ekiti is a healthy Ekiti and it is our joint responsibility,the commissioner added
The Commissioner also drew attention to the government’s ongoing tree-planting initiative, expressing concern over reports of people dumping refuse around the young trees.
“We have planted new trees across the state recently. Sadly, some people are now dumping waste around those young trees. This is not good. The trees are still growing and need our care. Please do not harm them.” she stated
She called on community leaders, market associations, and youth groups to support the state’s clean and green campaign by educating their members and ensuring compliance with environmental laws.
Also speaking at the event , the Director General of the Waste Management Authority, Mr. Olasunkanmi Onipede, emphasized the importance of sustained public participation in waste management efforts.
He noted that the Authority is working closely with other stakeholders to improve waste collection and ensure that all Dino bins are strategically placed and maintained.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Mr. Tunde Balogun, who also commended Governor Oyebanji for the initiative, described the Dino bins as a critical part of the state’s strategy to promote sustainable waste disposal practices and enhance public health.
