
The Executive Chairman of the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board, Prof. Femi Akinwumi has charged teachers and education managers in Ekiti State to enroll their children in public primary schools.
Prof. Femi Akinwumi who gave the charge in Ado Ekiti during a meeting with the management of the board and Education Secretaries of 16 LGEAs in the state, said this initiative aims to demonstrate faith of managers of the basic education sector in the public education system and help improve the overall quality of education.
He noted that by enrolling their children in public schools, teachers and education managers can foster stronger relationships between educators, pupils, and the community as well as identify areas for improvement and enhancement of education quality in public schools.
He added that as role models, teachers and education managers can demonstrate their commitment to the public education system, encouraging others to do the same.
Prof. Akinwumi reiterated some benefits of Public Primary Education in Ekiti State to include free and compulsory education in all public primary schools, thereby making basic education accessible to all.
The SUBEB boss also mentioned that the state government led by Governor Biodun Oyebanji has invested in renovating public schools, providing better learning environments for students.
He said further that public schools in the state are blessed with qualify and competent teachers who have been thoroughly trained in line with global best practices to give quality education to the learners irrespective of their age and class.
Speaking further, Prof. Akinwumi stated that efforts are on- going to begin reimbursement for parents whose children attend community schools and other public schools in the state.
He therefore advised teachers and education managers to enroll their children in public primary schools, stressing that it will contribute to a stronger, more inclusive education system.
Prof. Akinwumi said teachers are part of major education stakeholders that should lead by example the patronage of public education they advertise to members of public, urging them to embark on Operation Bring a Child (OBC) in anticipation of new academic calendar as September school resumption approaches.

“Let’s prioritize public education to earn self confidence and build a brighter future for our children.” Akinwumi added.
The SUBEB Chairman also said that the board will partner with the management of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to ensure posting of corpers to serve in the public primary schools in order to complement the efforts of existing primary school teachers in the state.
