National Youth Games: Team Ekiti returns home after impressive outing in Asaba

….clinches 14 medals

Team Ekiti has returned to the state after an impressive outing at the 9th National Youth Games (NYG), held in Asaba Delta state.

The team comprising 103 athletes featured in 20 games and won a total of 14 medals for the state which comprises 2 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze medals to place the state on the 18th on the table and 3rd in the south West.

During the ten-day sports tourney, the young male and female athletes from the State were given the platform to demonstrate their sports artistry in several sports.

Aside the feat recorded by winning medals, three Ekiti athletes Abdulazeez Suleiman (para-athletics), Precious Ayodele (Ayo Olopon), and Damilola Oni (cricket) have been invited to the National Camp by various their national federations due to their exceptional performances at the Youth games.

Addressing members of the contingent, the Technical Advisor to the Governor on Sports Development, Dr. Olusola Osetoba thanked God for the successful outing and the feat recorded by team Ekiti, stressing that the impressive outing is a reflection of the Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s commitment to sports development in the sate.

According to her, there will be more sports developmental programmes designed to develop the young athletes the more and improve on their sporting skills, as they have the potential to hit the national stage in the nearest future, not only for the state but the country at both national and international contests.

Some of the athletes appreciated Government for providing the platform for them to showcase their sporting talents, and expressed their readiness to perform better in future competitions in view of the experience gathered in the latest outing.
