
The Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has charged Nigerian students to be agents of innovation and change.
Governor Oyebanji gave the charge at the 2025 International Students’ Day in Ekiti, themed “The Role of 21st-Century Governance.”
The Governor, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr Niyi Adebayo, noted that Nigerian students should embrace platforms that enable growth and meaningful contribution to national development.
He encouraged students to be peaceful, respectful, and of good conduct.
The governor emphasized the importance of education and the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of the students.
In her opening remarks, the Senior Special Assistant on Students’ Affairs, Miss Oreoluwa Adetiba, said students should continue to promote cultural exchange, understanding, and unity among peers from diverse backgrounds.
In their goodwill messages, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt.Hon Adeoye Aribasoye; Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Professor Joseph Ayodele; and Rector of Ekiti State Polytechnic, Dr Sunday Ajeigbe, among others, urged the students to see themselves as stakeholders in governance.
Also, the keynote speaker, retired Major General Johnson Olawumi, said students should learn facts, serve their communities, speak the truth, and build bridges.
He urged them to participate responsibly in leadership development and to serve with good character.

Earlier in her welcome address, the permanent secretary, Ministry of Youth Development, Mrs Olusola Adeluyi-Femi , highlighted Governor Oyebanji’s notable contributions to student development, adding that he has been engaging in regular interactions with students to understand their needs.
The event also featured a cultural display by students from Ekiti State University.
