The Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) has successfully completed a comprehensive data cleaning exercise in Ekiti State in preparation for the construction of 500km of critical rural roads across the State.
The State Project Coordinator of RAAMP, Hon. Sunday Adunmo said the completion of the data cleaning exercise marked a significant step forward in the project’s quest to improve rural access and boost agricultural productivity in the State.
Adunmo said the data cleaning exercise has now paved way for the construction of 500km rural roads which would be selected based on their importance to the State’s economy.
He added that the roads which would be selected are expected to have great impact on the local economy, particularly the agricultural sector.
The Project Coordinator hailed the Governor Biodun Oyebanji-led administration for stimulating the State’s economic growth and boosting agricultural production with the RAAMP programme.
Adunmo stated that the completion of the data cleaning exercise would allow for the inclusion of new roads which were not captured earlier, as there are “farm roads which must be connected to notable markets and the cargo airport”.
“The RAAMP road project is designed to improve rural access in the State’s agricultural sector. By providing reliable and efficient transportation infrastructure, the project will enable farmers to reach markets with their produce and connect with other economic opportunities, thereby improving their livelihoods”.
“The completion of the data cleaning exercise marks a significant milestone in our project’s timeline, and we are confident that the construction of the rural roads will have a lasting impact on the people of Ekiti State, particularly those in the rural communities”.
Speaking on the exercise, the GIS Officer from the Federal Project Management Unit (FPMU), Mr Olusola Olujayetan explained that the data cleaning exercise was a crucial follow-up to the earlier data capturing exercise carried out by enumerators under the Nigeria Rural Transport Infrastructure Management System (NiRTIMS).

He added that the data cleaning exercise was a meticulous process that involved verifying and validating the data collected during the earlier exercise to ensure accuracy, reliability and consistency.
“NIRTIMS is a data-driven platform that enables the prioritization of road construction projects based on available resources, ensuring that investments are targeted and effective”, Olujayetan who led the 5-man FPMU team said.
