RURAL INFRASTRUCTURE: THREE RAAMP ROADS FOR COMMISSIONING OCTOBER, SAYS PROJECT COORDINATOR

…Hails Oyebanji’s commitment to Agriculture Sector

The Project Coordinator of Ekiti State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), Hon. Sunday Adunmo has disclosed that the State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji would commission three of its road projects in October as part of activities for the Governor’s third anniversary in office.

Speaking on a weekly Yoruba radio programme in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, Adunmo listed the three roads to include 19.8km Ikole-Isaba-Ikoyi-Igbemo road, 3.10km Ilupeju-Egan-Ayede road and 2.85km Owode-Anaye road.

The project coordinator who commended Governor Oyebanji for taking advantage of the RAAMP initiative to change the narrative in the State’s agriculture sector said the benefiting communities are now experiencing a new lease of life as the rural road projects have made positive impacts on them.

While highlighting the impacts of the roads on the benefiting communities, Adunmo said the construction of Ikole-Isaba-Ikoyi-Igbemo road has resuscitated the long-gone Arowona market in Ikoyi Ekiti while enrolment in Community primary school, Ikoyi has also increased tremendously.

He added that farmers and residents of Ita Eku and Igirigiri as well as staff of Ado Ekiti local government can now access their farms, homes and offices as asphalting of the 8.4km Enu Odi-Ita Eku-Igirigiri road has passed 4.5km.

While reacting to claims from some quarters that the RAAMP projects are solely funded by the World Bank, the Project Coordinator explained that the project is co-funded by the World Bank and Ekiti State Government; stressing that Governor Oyebanji has never shirked in providing the State’s counterpart funds.

Adunmo who dismissed the claim as politics of bitterness said the Governor did not only facilitate the commencement of the project in Ekiti State but has also monitored closely its implementation in the overall interest of the State.

“Some people are saying it is purely a World Bank project simply to discredit the Governor. The truth is that the project is jointly funded by the Bank and Ekiti State Government. The Governor indicated interest in the project, provided the matching funds and is always walking his talks to ensure its success.”.
“From October this year till January next year, we will be commissioning projects because the governor has done well. Governor Oyebanji should be supported by everyone who truly loves the development which the State has witnessed under his administration. Whoever has a farm and has not got any profit from it before because of bad road and is now making gains following the huge constructions ongoing in the State will appreciate the Governor for keying into this initiative. The Governor is making efforts to ensure that we get more roads for construction so as to make life more livable for the citizenry”, he said.

Adunmo who said asphalting is ongoing on at least eight roads called on citizens to imbibe maintenance culture by avoiding indiscriminate disposal of waste on the drains as well as burning of tyres and installation of abnormal speed breakers which retain water on the roads.

He disclosed that the Project would install barricades on some of the roads as it was done on Ikole-Isaba-Ikoyi-Igbemo road in order to prevent articulated vehicles from plying them since the roads were not designed for heavy duty vehicles.

The project coordinator who hinted at the commencement of construction works on some new roads which have been approved and designed said Afao-Ire road, Ikere-Ijare road, Ifaki-Orin-Ido road and Alajo-Awure road, among others would soon be awarded for construction.
