EKIRS, Nigerian Institute of Building Explore Partnership on Revenue Generation

The Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service (EKIRS) says it remains committed to strict compliance with the law in generating revenue in the state.

The Executive Chairman of EKIRS, Mr Olaniran Olatona, made this known when members of the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB), Ekiti State chapter, visited the agency to explore possible areas of partnership to boost the state’s revenue.

Speaking during the meeting at the Revenue House in Ado Ekiti, Mr Olatona said the agency cannot collect money from any individual or group without legal backing under existing tax laws and the Ekiti State Revenue Administration Law, 2025.

He said it would be premature to amend the law, which was signed by Governor Biodun Oyebanji on 23 December 2026.

According to him, the proposal by the Nigerian Institute of Building would require collaboration with other regulatory bodies within the construction sector in Ekiti State.

Mr Olatona, however, assured the delegation that the service would review their proposals to identify aspects related to revenue generation for possible action.

Earlier, the Ekiti State Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Building, Builder Mayowa Adeniyi, presented documents to the EKIRS chairman proposing new revenue sources within the building environment.

He thanked Mr Olatona for his guidance on how the proposals could be properly channelled through relevant regulatory agencies.

Mr Adeniyi also commended the EKIRS chairman for what he described as his dynamism in improving the state’s revenue performance since his appointment.

He added that the institute would continue to seek areas of collaboration with the agency to promote compliance, professionalism and economic growth in Ekiti State.

Senior officials of EKIRS were present at the meeting, including the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr Wasiu Mohammed; Director of Data Intelligence, Audit and Analytics, Mrs Yemisi Akin-Babalola; Director of Personal Income Tax, Mr Joseph Olorunfemi; Director of New Growth Areas, Mrs Sade Daramola; Head of PAYE, Mr Emmanuel Akinleye; Head of Direct Assessment, Mr Olusegun Ogunsanya; and Head of the Legal Department, Mr Ayodeji Olaifa.
