The Wife of the Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to combating sexual harassment in tertiary institutions, saying offenders must be held accountable to protect students and uphold the integrity of higher education.
Oyebanji made the pledge on Tuesday while receiving the management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, at her office in Ado-Ekiti.
She said sexual harassment should never be treated with levity, warning that failure to sanction perpetrators could encourage similar acts.
The First Lady commended the university’s management for measures taken to curb sexual harassment and promote a safer learning environment.
She also announced plans to organise a statewide gender summit and embark on advocacy visits to tertiary institutions to intensify the campaign against gender-based violence.

According to her, the initiative is aimed at educating students, lecturers and other stakeholders on moral values, gender rights and the legal consequences of sexual harassment and related offences.
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor lauded the First Lady for her contributions to women and child development, describing the Biodun Oyebanji administration as one providing purposeful leadership and creating an atmosphere of peace and stability for sustainable development.
Ogunwole also commended the Widows, Aged and Orphans Hope (WAOH) Foundation for its support to vulnerable women and girls through welfare interventions, protection initiatives and sustained advocacy for girl-child education.
He further disclosed that FUOYE’s 11th Convocation Ceremony would hold in February 2027 and announced that the university’s Senate had approved Dr. Oyebanji as the Convocation Lecturer in recognition of her contributions to humanitarian service, women empowerment and social development.
