Commissioner for Education, Bimpe Aderiye Mni

Secondary School teachers in Ekiti State have been assured of prompt attention to their agitations on irregularities observed in the teacher’s seniority and staff disposition lists.

The Commissioner for Education, Dr (Mrs) Olabimpe Aderiye gave the assurance at a meeting with the affected teachers in Ado Ekiti.

Dr Aderiye who said that the Oyebanji-led government would not fold its arms and deny the hard-working teachers of prompt and timely promotions, said prompt action would be taken to correct the flaws as any further delay in the correction of the lapses discovered in the previous promotions would keep them perpetually stagnant.

She said that the governor has been passionate about the well-being of teachers, which informed the meeting to chart a course for an acceptable resolution.

Aderiye opined that only happy teachers can perform optimally stressing that documented evidence should be submitted to the Office of Director, Planning, Research and Statistics or Administration and Supplies, Teaching Service Commission, TESCOM.

Earlier in his remarks , the Chairman of Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Prof. Akinwumi, assured that all issues bothering on the career progression of teachers would be addressed soon.

He admonished teachers not to regret taking up teaching appointment, but to be proud to recommend the profession to the younger generations.

Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Teachers’ Affairs, Mr. Fatai Oluyede, commended the leadership of the Education family in the state for taking proactive steps to ensure a final correction of the lapses to avert an avoidable crisis in the secondary schools across the state.

The Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools ASUSS, Mr Sola Adigun, in his comment also admonished the teachers to be prepared to make sacrifices as the rectification of the lapses would negatively affect them.

Earlier, the representatives of the affected teachers had presented their grievances including anomalies in the promotion of teachers, where subordinate officers were promoted as Principals and Vice Principals over their superior officers, irregularities in the years of certification of graduates from Ekiti State University, and irregularities in the state teachers and disposition lists among others.

A 7 member committee comprising the SSA Teachers Affairs, Chairman ASUSS, the 3 Tutors-General, the Director, Planning, Research, and Statistics, and her counterpart in the Administration and Supplies Department of the Teaching Service Commission was constituted by the Commissioner to look into the grievances and recommend back to the ministry within 3 weeks.

Praise the Lord. The Lord will uphold you and give you the ability to wipe the tears of the teachers who graduated from EKSU, carrying forward dated certificates. In Jesus name.
