Ekiti State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has commenced the distribution of improved seeds of maize, rice, and cassava stems to farmers at subsidized rates.
The government’s move according to the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Ebenezer Boluwade is to assist the farmers in accessing improved seeds instead of obtaining seeds from doubtful/unreliable sources.
He explained that the maize seeds were procured from the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T), Ibadan, while the rice seeds were bought from Premier Seeds Ltd – the oldest seed company in Nigeria.
The Commissioner disclosed that Farmers who bought the seeds last year shared good reports on the performance.

He stated that good cassava sticks will be sourced for those who are interested based on several varieties that are available.
The Ministry urged farmers to call the numbers of the officers in charge who will direct them so as to make both the payment and collection process seamless.
