..as 1250 teachers from 16 LGEAs begin 3-Day Jollyphonics Training Programme

Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has trained over 13,000 primary school teachers on modern teaching methodologies since the present administration in the State came into office in October, 2022.

The Executive Chairman of Ekiti SUBEB,Prof Femi Akinwumi made this known in Ado-Ekiti during a 3-day Jollyphonics Training programme for teachers of public primary schools in the State

He explained that teachers in the State had in the last 30 months been been exposed to a series of training programmes covering a wide range of topics including: Information Communications Technology, School Based Management Committee, Schools Safety, Quality Assurance and Jollyphonics as part of concerted efforts towards enhancing effective teaching and learning in the state’s school system under the UBEC/SUBEB intervention project.

The SUBEB Chairman who charged the over 1250 phonics teachers undergoing the 3-day workshop to ensure continued success and growth of pupils in the area of phonetics, urged participants to cascade the knowledge acquired at the workshop in their various schools for the programme to have the required multiplier effect.

While speaking on the importance of Jollyphonics in supporting early literacy development, the SUBEB boss described Jollyphonics as a multisensory phonics programme that uses a variety of learning methods, including visual, auditory, and kinesthetic activities, to help children learn to read and write.

Akinwumi stated that Ekiti would continue to actively explore all opportunities that would enhance the art of reading and writing among learners at a very early age.

He lauded Governor Oyebanji for giving priority to the building the capacity of the teachers, stressing that the more trainings teachers receive, the more effective they become on their jobs and the more relevant they will be towards advancing the basic education sector.

In his goodwill message at the event, the State Commissioner for Information, Rt Hon Taiwo Olatunbosun reiterated the commitment of the Oyebanji Administration to free qualitative education for all children of school age in the State up to Senior Secondary School 3 under a curriculum that prepares them adequately for further learning and skills development.

While reiterating the commitment of the Oyebanji led administration to the transformation of public schools on the state to Centres of Excellence, Olatunbosun stressed that Government would continue to give premium attention to the teaching and learning environment in schools as well as the welfare and building the capacity of teachers, stressing that participants of the 3-day training programme must take full advantage of the programme by maximally utilizing the skills acquired in their various schools

Speaking at the programme, the Project Manager of Jollyphonics in Ekiti State and Representative of Universal Learning Solutions, Mrs Stella Uzu urged participants to cascade the knowledge gained during the training in their various schools.

She also advised the participants to ensure that the knowledge acquired had the desired impact on the pupils through systematic and demonstrable teaching methods in the classrooms.
