Nurses and Midwives in the Local Government Health System in Ekiti State under the aegis of the Ekiti State Chapter of Forum for Local Government Nurses and Midwives (FOLGONM), have endorsed Governor Biodun Oyebanji for a second term in Office.

The association in a statement jointly signed by the State Chairman of the Forum, Comrade Alabi Ademola and Secretary, Comrade Taiwo O. Alo, that was made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, explained that the endorsement was based on the Governor’s unprecedented giant strides in the State, stressing that the ongoing transformation of the health sector and the recent approval of the payment of the remaining 10% of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) for all Health workers in the Local Government level thus placing them at par with their colleagues in the State Level is worthy of commendation.

They noted that the recent approval was Governor Oyebanji’s second major intervention of in the Condition of Service of the Local Government Health Care Workers, adding that the Governor had approved an 18% increase in their emolument in November 2024, which raised their salaries from 72% of what their colleagues in the State sector were earning to 90% before the latest intervention which now puts them at par.

The statement read inter alia, “Local Government Health Care Workers were neglected for over 12 years. Despite our agitations, we were paid a mere 72% of what our counterparts in the state were earning. When Governor Biodun Oyebanji heard of our plight, he initially moved us up from 72% to 90% in November 2024 and now, out of his magnanimity, our egalitarian Governor who emphasizes equality and fairness in his leadership style and policies has finally approved the payment the outstanding 10% thus putting us at par with state Health workers.

“It is in view of this and all the good works he is doing in the health sector particularly the strengthening of the Primary Health Care System in the State that we are endorsing him for the second term in office so that all the good works to continue”

Expressing gratitude to the State President of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Comrade O.B. Olatunde and other stakeholders for their support towards ensuring that the 12 year agitation of the Local Government Health workers came to fruition, they pledged on behalf of the Primary Health-care workers in the State to reciprocate government gesture by rededicating themselves to their duties.
