Ekiti Government Formalises Handover of Land for Construction of L-PRES Model Veterinary Hospital in Ado-Ekiti

The Ekiti State Government has formally handed over land for the construction of a Model Veterinary Hospital under the World Bank-assisted Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project in Ado-Ekiti, marking a significant milestone in the state’s drive to strengthen livestock health and agricultural development.

Speaking at the handover ceremony of the land in Ado-Ekiti, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Ebenezer Boluwade, said the project aligns with the State Government’s commitment to improving animal health services, boosting livestock productivity, and enhancing food security.

He noted that the model veterinary hospital would provide Clinical diagnostic Services, Disease Surveillance and Control, Pharmacy and Drug Management, Livestock extension and Advisory services as well as Training and Capacity Building, Research and innovation , Animal Welfare and Biosecurity for livestock farmers across the state.

Boluwade commended the World Bank and the L-PRES Project for supporting Ekiti State’s livestock transformation agenda, adding that the facility would also serve as a training and referral centre for veterinarians and animal health workers.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Ojo Babatope, described the land handover as a critical step toward timely project execution.

He assured stakeholders of the ministry’s readiness to provide all necessary institutional support to ensure the successful completion and sustainability of the hospital.

Also speaking at the event, the State Project Coordinator of L-PRES, Mr. Olayinka Adedipe, expressed appreciation to the Ekiti State Government for fulfilling one of the key requirements for project implementation.

He explained that the model veterinary hospital would improve access to quality animal healthcare, reduce livestock diseases, and contribute to increased income for farmers.

Adedipe added that the facility would be equipped to meet international standards and would complement other livestock infrastructure projects being embarked upon under the L-PRES initiative across the state.

In his contribution, The Director Veterinary Services in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Adedamola Fasoranti commended the World Bank and the L-PRES Project for supporting Ekiti State in advancing critical livestock infrastructure, stressing that the government remains committed to providing an enabling environment for the successful execution of the project.

He noted that the Model Veterinary Hospital, when completed, will serve as a referral centre for animal health services, disease diagnosis, treatment and capacity building for veterinarians, animal health officers and livestock farmers.

Dr. Fasoranti said the facility would also enhance disease surveillance and biosecurity measures, thereby safeguarding public health and improving livestock productivity.

The land handover was witnessed by government officials, project staff, and other stakeholders, who expressed optimism that the project would significantly enhance livestock production and resilience in Ekiti State.
