
The Ekiti State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Mr. Folorunso Olabode, has urged beneficiaries of the Ekiti East Local Government Empowerment Programme to make judicious use of the equipment provided to improve their livelihoods and contribute to community development.
Olabode gave the advice at the empowerment programme and commissioning of projects held at the Ekiti East Local Government Secretariat in Omuo-Ekiti.
He commended the Ekiti State Government for its sustained efforts to improve the welfare of citizens at the grassroots, noting that Governor Biodun Oyebanji was proud of the developmental initiatives being undertaken by the council.
The Commissioner also praised the Olomuo of Omuo-Ekiti, Oba Noah Omonigbeyin, the council chairman, and residents of the local government for their support and cooperation with government policies and programmes.
According to him, the Executive Chairman of Ekiti East Local Government, Mr. Olusegun Ojo, has distinguished himself through impactful leadership and service.
He noted that Ojo currently serves as Chairman of the Ekiti State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and as National Treasurer of the association.

In his welcome address, the Executive Chairman of Ekiti East Local Government said the empowerment programme and commissioning of legacy projects were part of his administration’s promises to the people of the local government.
He explained that the initiative was designed to positively impact residents’ lives, deliver democratic dividends, and align with the shared prosperity agenda of the state government.
The chairman appreciated Governor Oyebanji for prioritising grassroots development and supporting local government administrations across the state.
According to him, governance is ultimately measured by improvements in the quality of life and living standards of the people.

Ojo disclosed that no fewer than 1,000 beneficiaries, drawn from different segments of society—including youths, students, farmers, artisans, transporters, elderly persons, and persons with disabilities—benefited from the programme.
He added that various empowerment items, such as sewing machines, hair dryers, as well as farm implements including spraying pumps, rakes, hoes, and food supplies, were expected to positively impact their lives, provide sources of livelihood, and deliver democratic dividends to people of the council area.
Ojo explained that the two landmark projects commissioned during the ceremony – the Ekiti East Ultramodern Garri Processing Industry and the 1000 -seater Ekiti East Multipurpose Hall- were conceived based on the developmental needs of the local government and were aimed at boosting internally generated revenue, creating employment opportunities, and improving residents’ socio-economic well-being.
Ojo further revealed that products from the garri processing plant would be branded as “Garri Omuo”, expressing optimism that the product would gain international recognition through future export opportunities.
Speaking at the event, the Olomuo of Omuo-Ekiti, Oba Omonigbeyin, commended Governor Oyebanji for supporting the execution of the projects and for his developmental strides across the state.
The monarch also appreciated members of the community for their cooperation and support towards the success of the administration’s programmes.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Ademola Taiwo lauded the initiative and pledged that beneficiaries would make effective use of the empowerment items while contributing positively to society.
